The new life feels good. I think I've paid off all my karmic debts from this life and earlier ones. Touchwood. Must take care not to accumulate any more.
Got kind-of busy all over again. The last time I was busy like this I remember praying for rest and got plenty of it. Only it was not the kind of rest one enjoys. I've decided I like busy better. Am actually grateful for it.
The epiphany this time around is that the world in general is a busy place now. There is so much to do, that time is just never enough. My lady-help helps with the domestic chores, doing dishes and mopping floors, menial jobs, for she needs to supplement her husband's income to raise her kids. She has a colour television and her children watch Doraemon. When we were kids, the first colour televisions were owned by rich people. We didn't have one for a very long time, and so we weren't rich. It is amazing how much the world has moved. Another epiphany.
Like Gopu asked in a moment of reflection, where is this heading? We've mechanised all our chores and go to the gym to get exercise. Games are played from the couch on a screen and WhatsApp connects you to friends and relatives. Can't say all this is bad. We at least know whats going on in whose life and we are assured that all friends and relatives are just a facebook/twitter/whatsap/BBM away.
With so many gory activities one hears of in the news, one considers oneself lucky despite one's unenviable circumstances. It makes you wonder if humans have always been like this or we just get to hear of them more because there are so many sources that force the information on you.
I stopped watching the news and television in general a long time back as most of the stuff you heard either depressed you or made you angry at all the injustice/callousness/evil. My spiritual teachers (all from online audios/videos) told me not to see all that and I decided they were right because as a doctor I know that negative emotions don't do good things to your health. And good health is on the top of my bucket list as of now and therefore I stopped watching news.
Then a Facebook post on one of my random checks (random because I am now a busy woman who needs a lot of sleep which doesn't give me many hours to squint away on the social media) has a status update by a friend which reads,
"Can't believe it".
Tell me honestly, would or would not a statement of this nature make you curious? A look at the comments section leads one to the curious case of the murderous mommy. I told you news is forced on you whether you watch it or not.
I watch movies (often back to back) when I get a multiplex close to my place of residence. Which usually happens when I visit Mumbai or Kolkata. I am old fashioned as far as watching movies is concerned. A big screen, undisturbed flow (no kitchen work/phone/family/ads), popcorn and a cold drink are necessities. Also alone is great. No whisperings or comments to make you miss that one crucial shot. And only happy/funny movies.
The three funny movies I watched a couple of months back on three consecutive days in Kolkata were Piku, Tanu weds Manu 2 and Welcome to Karachi. All three were great comedies, but what had me falling off my seat was 'Welcome to Karachi' and its protagonists Col Ittafuck and Col Wottafuck.
If you can tell your rational and logical brain to shut up for two and a half hours, and bear with the first twenty minutes of the movie (which are quite unbearable), I recommend you watch 'Welcome to Karachi'.
Love to all of you.
