Bringing up children

What is the right way of bringing up children? I am a doctor with an MD, but my years of rigorous studying are of no use when it comes to dealing with my upset son. As a mother, my child replaces my job as top priority, and yet I feel frustrated and angry that more often that not, I am uncertain about the proper way of handling my child! Most of us humans become parents. Why is it then that no one has thought of educating us in the techniques of parenting in a formal way? Don't you think if this kind of knowledge had been taught to us in school, the world would be better off? For, better parenting skills would translate to better children and therefore a nicer world.
